Can Retegui Dethrone Salah? Golden Shoe Race Heats Up

The race for the European Golden Shoe is heating up among star players from various clubs. Mateo Retegui, who plays in Italy’s leading league, Serie A, is in second place while Mohamed Salah is in first place. Atalanta star Retegui has shown excellent performance in recent matches and has come to the attention of the world.

Retegui scored his 21st Serie A goal in Saturday’s 5-0 win over Empoli. Last season, Harry Kane won the European Golden Shoe with 21 goals. That season, Kane scored 42 points. This season, Retegui has the same number of points in second place.

Currently, Mohamed Salah is at the top of the list with 50 points. The Egyptian forward is in great form for Liverpool as usual. Looking at Salah’s form, it seems impossible to leave him behind this season. He has proven to be a tough competitor for the rest of the players.

Retegui joined Atalanta from Genoa in the summer transfer window to replace the injured Gianluca Scamacca. Since then, Retegui has been a key player for his team. Retegui has managed to score not only in Serie A but also  three goals in the Champions League as well. His overall record this season is 24 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions.

Another noteworthy thing is that Retegui is the only player from Serie A in the top 10 players in the race for the Golden Shoe. Moise Kean is in second place in Serie A with 15 goals, He plays for Fiorentina. In third place is Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram with 13 goals. He is followed by Ademola Lookman with 12 goals.
