Bayern Munich is actively pursuing Bayer Leverkusen’s star midfielder, Florian Wirtz, aiming for a summer transfer. The club is considering salary adjustments and player sales to fund the move. Honorary president Uli Hoeneß has personally engaged in the negotiations. However, Leverkusen remains hopeful of extending Wirtz’s contract, which currently runs until 2027. The absence of a release clause could make an extension challenging.

Despite Bayern’s interest, Hoeneß acknowledges the difficulty of the transfer, estimating their chances at just 10%. He stated, “We want to sign him…. I see the chances at 10 percent.”

Wirtz is also attracting attention from top European clubs, including Manchester City, Real Madrid, and FC Barcelona.

At the same time, Bayern is dealing with some uncertainty about Joshua Kimmich’s contract. His current deal will end this summer, and talks to extend it haven’t wrapped up yet. The club took back their offer to extend earlier, but they’re still hopeful they can get a new long-term deal done. We shouldn’t expect to hear any decision before Bayern’s upcoming Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayern’s conflicting feelings about getting Wirtz and Kimmich’s future are the main elements that determine the team’s strategy. In the event of Wirtz’s purchase, the midfield would profit enormously while Kimmich’s deal’s completion would become the most valuable asset for the team’s stability. These are the topics that all football fans and analytics are interested in correspondingly the summer transfer window is coming nearer.
