Long-serving Manchester City captain Kyle Walker officially completed a loan move to AC Milan at the end of the January transfer window, making this an important decision towards the end of his career. However, the loan agreement extends until the end of the Season, with an option for AC Milan to make the deal permanent for €5 million.
A Surprising Exit of Kyle Walker
The decision of Kyle Walker to leave Manchester City has surprised many, including coach Pep Guardiola. Kyle Walker was dealing with some personal challenges and considering his career stage, and he was looking to play outside England.
Kyle Walker’s Eight-year tenure with Manchester City came to an end. He Had a great time with them after joining Tottenham Hotspurs in 2017 for a record €52.7 million transfer. He had made a total of 319 appearances for Man City and won six Premier Leagues and a Champions League title with them.
AC Milan Seized a Great Opportunity
AC Milan has made a fantastic deal to secure Kyle Walker, and that too on Loan. Walker was also highly interested in Saudi Arabia, but it was unlikely that he would move there as he wanted to stay in Europe. Now, he has a chance to play for the iconic club.
AC Milan struggled in defense in the current Season, but now, with the arrival of Kyle Walker, his experience will boost the defense. This transfer was expected from AC Milan, as they were looking to replace Emerson Royal. Emerson joined Milan from Tottenham in the summer window for €15 million but was having very poor form and also dealing with a lot of injuries. Now, he has been potentially looking to move to Galatasaray.
Loan Details
The Current Kyle Walker deal runs until June 2025, with a clause for AC Milan to buy him for €5 million. If this happens, his Contract will be extended until 2027.
Milan had also considered signing Marcus Rashford from Manchester United. However, due to post-Brexit Serie A regulations limiting non-EU players, the club chose to proceed with Walker, as his affordability and immediate fit for their needs.
Walker is now starting a new chapter with AC Milan. He aims to make an impact in Serie A and help his new team recover from a difficult ongoing season.
