Premier League leaders Liverpool will face PSG in a thrilling Champions League last-16 tie, while Arsenal takes on PSV Eindhoven and Aston Villa battles Club Brugge in the Europa League knockout stage.

Reigning Champions League holders Real Madrid – who eliminated Manchester City in the knockout phase play-offs – will clash with local rivals Atletico Madrid, while Bayern Munich face Bayer Leverkusen in an all-German showdown.

This will mark the first Liverpool PSG head-to-head encounter since the 2018-19 season when Liverpool claimed their sixth Champions League title.

The winners of the Liverpool PSG match will meet Aston Villa or Club Brugge in the quarter-finals, while Arsenal could face Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid if they progress past PSV.

The two-legged UEFA last 16 fixtures will occur on 4-5 March and 11-12 March.

Liverpool & Villa on European Collision Course

The highly anticipated Liverpool PSG Champions League tie promises an intense battle between Premier League leaders and the defending French champions.

PSG seemed on the verge of elimination before a strong finish saw them advance. They finished 15th in the league phase. A crucial victory over Manchester City and an emphatic 10-0 aggregate win against Brest secured their spot in the Champions League round 16.

Star forward Ousmane Dembele, one of Europe’s in-form scorers, has already netted six goals in the competition.

However, Liverpool’s away record against French clubs is concerning, with their last victory dating back to 2008 against Marseille in the Champions League.

“At this stage, the quality of opposition is always high, and PSG’s European pedigree speaks for itself,” said Liverpool boss Arne Slot. “They had a fantastic performance against Brest and strong results in the league phase, defeating Stuttgart, Manchester City, Girona, and Salzburg.”

If Liverpool overcome Luis Enrique’s PSG, they could set up a Premier League showdown with Aston Villa in April, provided Villa defeats Club Brugge in the knockout stage.

However, Club Brugge already has a psychological edge, having beaten Villa in the league phase, one of only two defeats that Unai Emery’s side suffered.

“I’m thrilled because we get to enjoy this moment with our supporters,” said Emery on the upcoming Aston Villa Club Brugge fixture.

Arsenal PSV Clash for Quarter-Final Spot

Arsenal’s opponents, PSV Eindhoven, are the reigning Dutch champions. They finished 14th in the league phase. In January, they secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over a rotated Liverpool squad.

Historically, Arsenal have dominated this fixture, winning three times in previous Champions League group stages, including a resounding 4-0 home victory last season.

“We know what we’re up against,” said Mikel Arteta. “We’ve played PSV before; they’re a powerful team. At this stage, every opponent is top quality.”

With Arsenal PSV history favoring the Gunners, the round of 16 ties could be a pivotal test of Arsenal’s squad depth as they eye a deep run in Europe.
