Linked with Spain’s National Team

The Spanish Football Federation sought a fresh head coach after Spain early exit from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Recently Albert Luque, who was then the sports director, stated Zidane was under consideration for the job.

During an interview with Cadena SER,  Luque admitted that Zidane was his top candidate for taking over from Luis Enrique. Luque said, I’ll tell you the one I had in mind and I’m going to say that for the first time, here today, who I would try to convince: Zidane,”. Even Luis Rubiales, the then president of the Spanish Football Federation, noted that he wasn’t aware of this scheme.

Though Zidane is a strong contender, Luis de la Fuente ultimately got the job. De la Fuente has since then led Spain to victory in the UEFA 2024 European Championship. His success earned him a contract extension until  2028.

Future with the French National Team

Although Zidane missed the chance to coach Spain’s national team, he is still a top candidate to run the French national team. France’s present manager, Didier Deschamps, just said that he will leave after the 2026 World Cup. Many people believe Zidane is the most obvious substitution.

Although Zidane was earlier connected to the French job after the 2022 World Cup, Deschamps had his contract extended until 2026. Zidane also turned down an invitation to coach the United States men’s national team after the 2022 World Cup.

Zidane’s future prospects

Zidane has been out of management since he left Real Madrid in May 2021. What he next does remains a mystery. Zidane will surely soon have the chance to coach his homeland on the world scene with Deschamps confirmed Departure.

Fans from all around the world are anxious to see Zidane come back to coaching. Whether it is with France or another major team, his return to management could reshape international football.
